It was Gottlieb who resurrected the case after the first officer examining the evidence concluded there had been no rape at all, and it was Gottlieb who committed one of the worst fabrications in the whole case: the creation of a 33-page, single-spaced report that relied on no notes at all.
In the summer of 2006, even with a gag order, the blogosphere and good reporting by Joe Neff of the Raleigh News & Observer was punching holes in prosecutor Mike Nifong's case, and so it was Gottlieb to the rescue with his version of deus ex machina. Declared the New York Times:
Crucial to that portrait of the case are Sergeant Gottlieb’s 33 pages of typed notes and 3 pages of handwritten notes, which have not previously been revealed. His file was delivered to the defense on July 17, making it the last of three batches of investigators’ notes, medical reports, statements and other evidence shared with the defense under North Carolina’s pretrial discovery rules.Indeed, it was crucial, but in a different way than Gottlieb had intended. As one read through it, one could see that the report was written to paper over all of the holes in the case. Hadn't Crystal Mangum told a number of mutually-exclusive tales in accounting this "rape"? Not according to Gottlieb, who insisted she told only one story. Or, this:
As recounted in one investigator’s notes, one of the indicted players does not match the accuser’s initial physical descriptions of her attackers: she said all three were chubby or heavyset, but one is tall and skinny. In Sergeant Gottlieb’s version of the same conversation, however, her descriptions closely correspond to the defendants.Fast forward to Tim Deal. Like Gottlieb, he either does not take notes or he "destroys" them, and then, apparently, relies on a super memory.
Like Gottlieb, he tries to paper over the holes in testimony given by a previous state witness. Like Gottlieb, he is one of those officers who decides beforehand that "something happened" whether or not it really did, and then is hellbent on proving it, even if it means innocent people go to prison.
There is one difference in the two men, however. After the lacrosse case fell apart and Gottlieb's role was exposed, he suddenly took a medical retirement from being a police officer and is no longer employed with the DPD. Tim Deal still has a job as a cop, apparently trying to keep up Gottlieb's sorry tradition.

I do know from what I saw in court today of him. He considers himself judge, jury and executioner. A true product of the peter principle, and I'm sure on windy days he wears a members only jacket!
How does he get away with this:
"Det. admits that he did modify one of the child's answers in his past interview with alleged victim." - TFP JLukachick
Something about this Det. Deal that has been bothering me all day is from first thing in the morning. He testified that he received training on telling the truth not how to answer questions. He had to be taught to tell the truth? I wondered if he passed that class, I don't think so.
Makes you wonder how and why he still has a job. Maybe we should ask Phil Summers. This so called detective sounds more like a story teller maybe he should write fiction since he likes to make up stories.
My headline would have been, "So, What's the Deal...Deal?" Couldn't help it, but agreed that his little fish keep getting bigger and bigger. This fellow has a lot to answer for on Earth & in Heaven.
I do believe that by the end of this "trial", heads will be rolling. Unfortunately, it has been at Mrs. Craft's expense. It's past time and I believe that this is the end of the road for a lot of this in Catoosa County. We have to have it.
In many of my prayers today, I not only asked my Lord & Savior to intervene with the jury and help them see the lies, but also that when this was all over, that everyone who commited any crimes during this "trial", have to answer to a new legal system. Also, I have included in my prayers that when she is found innocent, that not only can she live her life, but have a better life than she had before in whatever capacity He sees fit.
I hope we can all add that in our prayers.
How is this case going to effect future child molestation cases in Catoosa County? I'll tell you how. Because of all the misconduct by Judge/DA potential jurors will not have any faith in anything they say and as a result guilty people will walk. How is anyone going to take them seriously after this. Det. Deal included.
Don't invest your nest egg anticipating any person will be held responsible for what they've done if their check is back by your tax dollar. The best bet there is letting more people know so the TEAM going after Tonya knows they are being watched.
Please pass this link along to all in the media you can, especially metro and national media sources: The Tonya Craft Case
Can anyone tell me what the Det. Job is. I thought he had to gather evidence,Not just for one side he did not want anything good on her, he went by what the Lamb's and Wilson's said, what they said was true and they continue talking to the kids till they said what they wanted them too.he has her guilty before she gets started, How do these people sleep at night, he said he wanted the truth but it was not the truth he wanted.. Is this Judge going to let these Da's take him down the toilet with them. Are is he in there already,
I once talked to a former detective who is now a lead investigator in a another area and she told me that when she investigated she gathered all information good and bad and if the good helped the defense, well that was just the way it was. That is suppose to be the job of a detective, to investigate, not be judge an jury.
7:57 post, Det Deal doesn't think he is the judge and jury... This fascinating creature thinks he is God! He is not only out to convict an innocent person, he thinks it is perfectly fine to add what ever he wants to transcripts, if they don't answer the way he wants, he will just CHANGE THE ANSWER!!!
I know all about Deal, he will lie to serve his purpose.
Did I hear right? It said on News Channel 9 at 6:00 that Tonya Craft had reported suspected child abuse. Wonder if that is what sparked the henching.
Do you think Tonya will have to testify?
Deuteronomy 19
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Of course, we no longer adhere to this, which is why we are under judgment and, as a result of His Judgment, our justice system has become corrupt and man-centered rather than God-centered. A man who has no fear of God is an evil man indeed.
Where are the fathers of these girls. Detective Deal said one father didn't want to be in the room when his daughter spoke to her mother about this. Now something is very fishy if only the mothers of these girls are the leaders in this case. Most of the time fathers would be hard to hold back. We don't even hear one word about them. Something is fishy!!!
One of the fathers told the prosecution that he believed that nothing happened, and either Arnt or Gregor threatened to charge him with obstruction of justice. The whole thing simply is unbelievable.
It is my understanding that one father said he didn't believe that his child had been abused (because he has accused someone himself - although, his wife is the one who spread that one - and so he'd know) and the other father was actually divorcing hs wife for "inappropriate behavior" also believed to be his disbelief in the case. (though for looks they are together at the courthouse - his demeanor appears different from hers) We need to pray for God's conviction of these men's hearts.
Question: Last night on WRCB, Judy Oneal from another local channel said that one of the mothers called into her station yelling at producer since her station had mistakenly not bleeped out the names of the victims. So, Judy turned this information over to Judge House since the witnesses are not to watch the trial and then take the stand. Thing is - she took the stand Monday. Shouldn't they throw out her testimony or what is the proper protocol on this?
Also - I don't know why they are so upset about the names getting out - everyone knows who all the individuals are anyway......
Deal is a joke! He can't even answer a question without bouncing his eyes toward the prosecution to see if he did ok. I wish a had a penny for every time he did this today when he was on the stand. And if that so called judge yawns one more time while the defense is cross examining...I swear! It is just so sad! I wish everyone could be there in the courtroom. It is truly a kangaroo court!
anonymous 8:25.....Read "Truth for Tonya" and you will find how this all began...."My Friend's Story"
I feel like when Judy O'Neal does present this to Judge House he will do nothing about it because he can fire back and say "Well you should have bleeped out the girls names" But thats not as much of a concern as it is for the witnesses to be watching the trial on TV.
Judge House is good for nothing. Just look at him during the trial. He looks bored beyond belief during the trial with his head sitting in his hand half the time. Yes, the case may not be exciting ALL the time but seriously sit up and learn some manners.
I don't think I want the mother that testified's testamony thrown out. She made a complete idiot of herself on the stand on Monday. I would be happy if the court just acknowledged in front of the jury that she called the station and that was improper at the very least, and in fact criminal. They have made indications that Tonya could go to jail for violating the gag order that was slipped in after hours the night before her interview, yet nothing will be done to this witness.
Just FYI Detective Deal was a Paramedic before he was a police officer. He worked for Hutcheson Medical EMS and he knows Sharon Anderson( SANE)very well
As I look back on this whole experience, everyone commenting here are either so blinded by deception. They hear gossip and run with it. I know Detective in this case and he is a kind and caring person who was honestly seeking the truth. I find it strange that Craft lied about taking a polygraph, but was never willing to consider it. Also find it funny that her attorney has used the same cookie cutter defense on several cases, no matter the situation. God forbid someone believe the children were telling the truth all along and the investigators and DA office were just doing their job. Finally Mr. Anderson, something tells me you have something in your past to that screams chester. You can't hide from God!
